Best SMS Marketing Platforms for Ecommerce (2026 Compared)

An honest comparison of SMS marketing platforms for ecommerce: Klaviyo, Postscript, Attentive, Omnisend, Recart, Emotive and more, with verified 2026 pricing.

Table of contents

The best SMS marketing platform for most ecommerce brands is the one that shares a customer profile with your email. For brands on Klaviyo, that’s usually Klaviyo SMS. Postscript is the strongest Shopify-only SMS specialist, Attentive suits enterprise programs, and Omnisend is the budget all-in-one. General tools like SimpleTexting are built for businesses that don’t sell online.

We run SMS programs inside Klaviyo, so we have a bias, and we’ll say where it shows. Every price below was checked on the vendor’s own pricing page as of September 2026. Prices change often in this category, so confirm before you sign.

How we evaluated these platforms

We judged each platform on what matters for an online store rather than a dentist’s appointment reminders:

  • Ecommerce data. Can texts trigger from cart, checkout, browse, product and order events, and can you segment on purchase history?
  • Consent and compliance tooling. Compliant opt-in forms, checkout consent, keyword handling, quiet hours and sender registration. The rules are covered in our SMS compliance guide.
  • Email alongside SMS. One profile and one flow builder, or two tools to sync?
  • Pricing transparency. Can you work out what 10,000 texts will cost before a sales call?
  • Fit by size. What the platform is built for, not what its homepage claims.

1. Klaviyo SMS: best for brands that want email and SMS on one profile

Klaviyo started as an email platform and now runs SMS, MMS, RCS, WhatsApp and push from the same customer profile, flow builder and reporting. That’s its real advantage: a single flow can choose between email and text for each person, and one attribution model reports both.

Pricing (as of September 2026, from klaviyo.com/pricing). Klaviyo moved SMS from credits to dollar-based tiers in July 2026. Every account gets $5 of mobile messaging a month free. Paid tiers start at $15 a month, and the US calculator showed:

US volume per month (toll-free)Monthly cost
1,000 SMS$15
10,000 SMS$125
20,000 SMS$240
1,000 MMS$45

Short codes were slightly cheaper per message (10,000 US SMS at $115 a month) but add a monthly short code fee. Klaviyo’s billing help says carrier fees are built into the rate. International sends cost more (1,000 SMS was $30 a month to Australia and $70 to the UK). Email is priced separately by active profiles.

Klaviyo's mobile messaging calculator: 2,900 US toll-free SMS a month for $40.00 including carrier fees
Klaviyo's SMS calculator on 10 October 2026: 2,900 US toll-free texts a month (the calculator's default) comes to $40.00 including carrier fees. Source

Strengths:

  • One profile and one flow builder for email and SMS, with channel-aware splits.
  • SMS in 23 countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, much of Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
  • RCS generally available since February 2026, with automatic SMS fallback.
  • Multi-platform: not tied to Shopify.

Limitations:

  • Conversational and SMS-specific tooling is less deep than Postscript’s or Attentive’s.
  • The default US sender is a toll-free number; the upgrade is a short code, which takes 8 to 12 weeks to provision.
  • The 2026 pricing change means many online price guides for Klaviyo SMS are now wrong.

Best for: brands already on Klaviyo for email, and anyone for whom SMS is a strong second channel rather than the main one. Setup, consent and flows are covered in our Klaviyo SMS marketing guide.

2. Postscript: best for Shopify brands where SMS is a major channel

Postscript is the Shopify-native SMS specialist. It reads Shopify customer, order and product data deeply, and its tooling is built around conversational selling, compliance and SMS-specific AI.

Pricing (from postscript.io/pricing, re-checked 10 October 2026):

PlanMonthly feeUS SMSUS MMS
Starter$0 ($49 minimum monthly spend)$0.009$0.045
Growth$100$0.008$0.03
Professional$500$0.007$0.024
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustom

Carrier fees are passed through at cost on their own line; Postscript lists average US carrier fees of about $0.0033 per SMS and $0.008 per MMS. A dedicated short code is $750 a month (passed through from carriers), toll-free numbers and verification are free, contracts are optional, and new accounts get a $100 credit to use in the first 30 days. Postscript also sells an AI plan at $699 a month plus per-message rates.

Postscript SMS pricing: Starter $0 a month with a $49 monthly minimum spend, Growth $100 a month, Professional $500 a month, Enterprise contact us
Postscript's pricing page on 10 October 2026: a platform fee from $0 (with a $49 monthly minimum) to $500 a month, plus per-message rates from $0.007 to $0.009 per SMS and carrier fees. Source

A quick note on the tiers: Growth saves $0.001 per SMS over Starter for a $100 fee, so it only pays for itself on SMS alone above roughly 100,000 texts a month. Below that, choose Growth for its features, not the rate.

Strengths:

  • Deepest Shopify integration of any SMS platform.
  • Transparent, published per-message pricing.
  • Strong two-way and conversational selling tools.

Limitations:

  • Shopify-first; other platforms need an SDK.
  • Email is on a waitlist, so most Postscript brands run a second platform for email and have to sync profiles and reconcile attribution.

Best for: Shopify brands where SMS drives a large share of retention revenue. Our Klaviyo vs Postscript comparison covers when the second platform is worth it.

3. Attentive: best for enterprise SMS programs

Attentive is the SMS-first platform most associated with large DTC and retail brands. It now sells SMS, email, RCS and push, with AI products layered on top.

Pricing (as of 10 October 2026, from attentive.com/pricing). No public prices. Attentive quotes custom pricing based on list size and messages sent. Its text-only package is billed per message and by subscriber count, with discounts for bundling channels. AI add-ons are sold separately (some on a flat monthly fee, one on a pay-per-click basis), and a basic AI tier is included in every plan. Free trials are offered through a form.

Attentive's pricing page on 10 October 2026: no published prices. It's a sales form, with pricing based on messages sent, list size, channels and AI tools. Source

Strengths:

  • Mature SMS program tooling, including its two-tap mobile sign-up.
  • Compliance tooling and a dedicated support team in every plan.
  • Email, SMS, RCS and push available in one contract.

Limitations:

  • No published pricing, so you can’t compare costs without a sales process.
  • Built and priced for larger programs; smaller brands often find it more platform than they need.

Best for: enterprise and upper mid-market brands running SMS as a primary channel, with the budget for a custom contract. See our Klaviyo vs Attentive comparison.

4. Omnisend: best budget all-in-one (on the Pro plan)

Omnisend is an ecommerce email and SMS platform with a lower entry price than Klaviyo. One important change: since May 4, 2026, new accounts can only add SMS on the Pro plan, and SMS is no longer included in Pro for new subscribers; you buy it as an add-on.

Pricing (as of September 2026, from omnisend.com/pricing and Omnisend’s pricing help article). Pro is $59 a month at 2,500 contacts (with an introductory discount at the time of writing). US SMS is priced by monthly SMS spend:

Monthly SMS spendPer US SMS
$10 to $49.99$0.009
$50 to $999.99$0.0085
$1,000 to $9,999.99$0.008
$10,000+$0.007

MMS costs three times the SMS price (US and Canada only), and SMS credits expire after 60 days. Omnisend’s pricing page still mentioned bonus SMS credits on Pro while its help article said new Pro subscribers must buy SMS separately; the help article is the newer source.

Strengths: email and SMS in one product at a lower price, broad ecommerce platform support, and SMS to many countries.

Limitations: SMS is now locked to the Pro plan for new accounts, and flow and segmentation depth sits below Klaviyo’s.

Best for: smaller ecommerce brands that want email and SMS in one tool on a tighter budget. See Klaviyo vs Omnisend.

5. Recart: best for Shopify brands wanting managed SMS list growth

Recart is a Shopify-only SMS tool with a strong focus on list growth (pop-ups and one-click subscriber verification) and managed plans. It doesn’t send email; it integrates with Klaviyo.

Pricing (as of September 2026, from recart.com/pricing). The page showed two price structures at the time of checking. The main cards list “List Growth + SMS” plans from $500 a month (US SMS $0.0085) to $4,250 a month (US SMS $0.005), on quarterly or annual commitments, plus carrier fees. A second comparison table lists Starter, Pro and Scale plans from $299 to $999 a month on 3 to 12-month terms. Ask Recart which applies before you budget. A short code is a $600 monthly add-on, and international sends include carrier fees (UK $0.045, Australia $0.054 per SMS).

Strengths: list growth tools, unlimited subscribers, and low per-message rates on higher tiers.

Limitations: Shopify only, commitments on most plans, no email, and pricing that’s harder to read than it should be.

Best for: Shopify brands running email in Klaviyo that want a separate, growth-focused SMS tool.

6. Emotive: best for brands that want a managed SMS team

Emotive sells SMS with a service layer: every tier includes a dedicated customer success manager, and higher tiers add a copywriter.

Pricing (as of September 2026, from emotive.io/pricing/sms):

PlanMonthly feeUS SMSMinimum spendList size
Starter$100$0.015NoneUnder 2,000
Pro$200$0.01$2002,000 to 5,000
Advanced$300$0.008$4005,000 to 10,000
EnterpriseCustomVaries–Over 10,000

There’s a 14-day free trial, and Emotive advertises a 5x SMS ROI guarantee for stores with 10,000+ monthly unique visits. Carrier fee handling wasn’t stated on the page.

Strengths: hands-on service included, clear tiering by list size, multi-platform support.

Limitations: SMS only (no email), and the per-message rate on small lists is higher than most.

Best for: brands without in-house SMS resource that want the platform and the people in one contract.

7. Sendlane: best for email and SMS with volume-based email pricing

Sendlane is an ecommerce email and SMS platform that prices email by send volume with unlimited profiles, which suits brands with big lists and moderate sending.

Pricing (as of September 2026, from sendlane.com/pricing). Email starts at $100 a month for 50,000 emails. SMS starts at $0.009 per message including carrier fees, and SMS is only available on paid accounts. The page also showed an older-looking credit table for some plans, so confirm the current SMS rate with Sendlane.

Best for: brands with large profile counts that would pay heavily on profile-based pricing elsewhere.

8. Mailchimp SMS: best for existing Mailchimp users

Mailchimp sells SMS as an add-on to paid email plans (Essentials and above), after an application and approval step.

Pricing (as of September 2026, from mailchimp.com/pricing/sms-marketing). Monthly credit blocks start at $20 for 1,000 credits and fall to about $0.006 per credit at 100,000 credits ($600). A US SMS uses 1 credit and a US MMS 3 (MMS only on Standard and Premium). International SMS uses more credits: 4 for Australia, 5 for the UK. Unused credits expire.

Best for: brands already on Mailchimp that want basic SMS without a second tool. If you’re outgrowing Mailchimp’s ecommerce automation, see Klaviyo vs Mailchimp.

9. Brevo: best for low-volume, pay-as-you-go SMS

Brevo sells SMS as prepaid credits with no plan and no monthly minimum. A US SMS was a flat $0.0109 (about $10.90 per 1,000) with no volume discount, as of September 2026 on Brevo’s SMS pricing. Credits don’t expire. Email plans are separate, from $9 a month.

Best for: small stores sending occasional texts that don’t want a subscription. At volume, the lack of discounts makes it one of the pricier options.

10. SimpleTexting and EZ Texting: best for non-ecommerce texting

These are general-purpose business texting tools, strong for appointment reminders, local businesses and two-way customer service, but not built around ecommerce events like abandoned carts.

  • SimpleTexting (pricing): from $29 a month for 500 texts to $899 for 50,000, with carrier fees passed through. US and Canada only.
  • EZ Texting (pricing): from $25 a month (500 credits) to Enterprise from $3,000 a month on a dedicated short code.

Best for: businesses that text customers but don’t run an online store, or that need two-way texting more than automation.

What 10,000 US texts a month actually costs

Per-message rates only tell part of the story. Here’s the same month (10,000 single-segment US SMS) on the platforms that publish enough to calculate it, as of September 2026:

PlatformCalculationApproximate monthly SMS cost
Klaviyo (toll-free)Calculator tier, carrier fees built in per Klaviyo$125
Postscript Starter10,000 × $0.009 + about $33 carrier feesabout $123
Postscript Growth$100 + 10,000 × $0.008 + about $33 carrier feesabout $213
Omnisend10,000 × $0.0085, plus the Pro plan$85 + Pro plan
Mailchimp10,000 credit block, plus a paid email plan$90 + email plan
Brevo10,000 × $0.0109 prepaid$109

Three things change the real number more than the rate card:

  1. Segments. One emoji or special character cuts a segment from 160 characters to 70. A text that tips into two or three segments doubles or triples the cost.
  2. MMS. Across these platforms, MMS costs roughly three to five times an SMS.
  3. The second platform. If your SMS tool doesn’t do email, add the cost of syncing two tools and reconciling two attribution models. That’s the cost that doesn’t show up on either invoice.

RCS: the upgrade to SMS

RCS (Rich Communication Services) brings branded sender profiles, images, carousels and buttons to the phone’s native messaging app, and falls back to SMS where it isn’t supported. It’s the answer to “what’s replacing SMS?”, but it’s an upgrade path rather than a replacement: SMS is still the format that reaches every phone.

As of September 2026, Klaviyo’s RCS has been generally available since February 2026 in the US, UK and several European markets (basic RCS generally costs the same as SMS; rich messages cost more), Attentive includes RCS in its packages, and Postscript lists RCS carrier fees and offers RCS on Enterprise. Carrier review for RCS takes weeks, so don’t plan a launch around it at short notice.

Yes, with consent, and there’s no blanket business-to-business exemption. Marketing texts sent with an autodialer to a mobile number need the recipient’s prior express written consent under the TCPA, whether that phone is personal or a work mobile. Carrier rules and sender registration (10DLC, toll-free verification or short codes, depending on how you send) apply to every program. Our SMS compliance guide covers consent wording, quiet hours and opt-outs.

General information, not legal advice. Confirm your program with a qualified lawyer.

How to choose the right SMS platform

  • Already on Klaviyo for email? Start with Klaviyo SMS. Add a specialist only if SMS becomes your dominant channel and you’ve hit a real limit.
  • Shopify brand where SMS is the main event? Shortlist Postscript, and compare the cost of a second platform honestly.
  • Enterprise program with budget for a custom contract? Talk to Attentive.
  • Small store, tight budget, want one tool? Omnisend on Pro, or Brevo for occasional sends.
  • Want the service bundled in? Emotive, or Recart’s managed plans.
  • Not an online store? SimpleTexting or EZ Texting.

Whichever you choose, the platform is the easy part. The revenue comes from consent collection, the flows the texts sit in, and a sending cadence that doesn’t burn the list. Our SMS marketing guide covers the fundamentals, and our SMS marketing examples show what good texts look like. If you’d rather hand the program to specialists, we’ve ranked the best SMS marketing agencies too.

/ Frequently Asked Questions

Q.01 What is the best SMS marketing platform for ecommerce? +

/ Answer

It depends on your stack. Klaviyo is the best fit for most ecommerce brands because SMS runs on the same profile, flows and reporting as email. Postscript is the strongest Shopify-only SMS specialist with published pricing. Attentive suits larger brands that want an enterprise SMS program and managed services. Omnisend is a budget all-in-one option, and general tools like SimpleTexting suit non-ecommerce texting.

Q.02 How much does an SMS marketing platform cost? +

/ Answer

Most ecommerce platforms charge per message, often on top of a monthly fee. As of September 2026, US SMS rates published by Klaviyo, Postscript, Omnisend, Sendlane and Brevo sit between roughly $0.007 and $0.011 per message before volume discounts, with MMS three to four times more. Sending 10,000 US texts a month came to roughly $85 to $215 in SMS charges on those platforms, before any email plan. Attentive quotes custom pricing.

Q.03 Is Klaviyo or Postscript better for SMS? +

/ Answer

Postscript goes deeper on SMS for Shopify stores: Shopify-native data, conversational selling, AI products and transparent per-message pricing. Klaviyo wins when you want SMS and email on one profile, one flow builder and one attribution model, and it works beyond Shopify. For most brands where email is the bigger channel, Klaviyo is the simpler stack; for SMS-first Shopify brands, Postscript is worth a look.

Q.04 What happened to Yotpo SMS (SMSBump)? +

/ Answer

Yotpo shut down its SMS & Email product, formerly SMSBump, with full deprecation scheduled for December 31, 2025. Yotpo now sells reviews, loyalty and referrals, and named Attentive and Omnisend as migration partners for SMS customers. If you still see Yotpo SMS in comparison lists, they are out of date.

Q.05 What is replacing SMS for marketing? +

/ Answer

RCS (Rich Communication Services) is the upgrade to SMS: branded sender profiles, images, carousels and buttons in the native messaging app, with automatic SMS fallback where RCS isn't supported. Klaviyo made RCS generally available in February 2026 in the US, UK and several European markets, and Attentive and Postscript also offer it. SMS remains the baseline that reaches every phone.

Q.06 What is the difference between a text message and SMS? +

/ Answer

SMS (Short Message Service) is the standard text message format: plain text, up to 160 characters per segment. MMS adds images, GIFs and longer text, and costs more to send. RCS is the newer rich format with branding and interactive elements. When marketers say text message marketing, they usually mean SMS, sometimes with MMS or RCS for launches.

Q.07 Is SMS marketing still worth it in 2026? +

/ Answer

Yes, for ecommerce brands that collect consent properly and text sparingly. Texts land in the phone's native inbox, and RCS adds branding and buttons with SMS fallback, so SMS isn't becoming obsolete. Costs stay low: on 10 October 2026, Postscript's Starter rate was $0.009 per US SMS plus about $0.0033 in average carrier fees. Judge it on revenue per message, not clicks.

Q.08 Is B2B texting legal in the US? +

/ Answer

Yes, with consent. There is no blanket business-to-business exemption: marketing texts sent with an autodialer to a mobile number need the recipient's prior express written consent under the TCPA, whether the phone is personal or a work mobile. Carrier rules and sender registration apply too, and you must honour opt-outs. This is general information, not legal advice.
