Postscript publishes its prices, which already puts it ahead of Attentive. But the number on the pricing page is only half the bill. You pay a platform fee, a per-message rate that depends on your plan, a separate carrier fee on every text, and more for long messages, images and short codes.
Every Postscript figure below comes from postscript.io/pricing and Postscript’s help centre: plans, rates, carrier fees and the short-code cost were re-checked on 10 October 2026, and plan features are as listed in September 2026. Klaviyo comparison figures are from its calculator in September 2026. We run Klaviyo SMS for ecommerce brands, and we will tell you when Postscript is the better tool.
How much does Postscript cost?
As of 10 October 2026, Postscript costs $0 a month on Starter (with a $49 monthly minimum spend), $100 a month on Growth and $500 a month on Professional. On top of that you pay $0.007 to $0.009 per SMS and $0.024 to $0.045 per MMS depending on plan, plus US carrier fees passed through at cost.
There are no contact or profile fees. Postscript bills for what you send, after you send it.

Every plan includes the visual flow builder with pre-built automations (cart and browse abandonment, welcome, upsell, shipping), popups and checkout opt-in, segmentation using Shopify data, reply management, custom attribution windows, and a dedicated toll-free number.
Postscript AI Plan
Postscript also sells an AI Plan at $699 a month, bundling Brand Center, Infinity Testing and Shopper (its 1:1 agentic journeys). Per-message rates on that plan run from $0.003 to $0.30 depending on the product and message type. It’s quoted through sales.
What Postscript actually costs at your volume
Postscript prices on messages, not subscribers, so the useful table is by monthly send volume. Figures below add the plan fee, the per-SMS rate and Postscript’s published average US carrier fee of $0.0033 per SMS. They assume single-segment SMS.
| US SMS per month | Starter | Growth | Professional | Klaviyo SMS (US toll-free) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | ~$66 | ~$157 | ~$552 | $70 |
| 10,000 | ~$123 | ~$213 | ~$603 | $125 |
| 25,000 | ~$308 | ~$383 | ~$758 | Not shown* |
| 50,000 | ~$615 | ~$665 | ~$1,015 | Not shown* |
| 100,000 | ~$1,230 | ~$1,230 | ~$1,530 | Not shown* |
Klaviyo figures are the monthly plan cost shown by its pricing calculator for US toll-free SMS in September 2026, with carrier fees included in the rate. The public calculator stops at 20,000 messages ($240). See our Klaviyo SMS pricing guide for more tiers.
On the Starter plan at 5,000 messages, message fees are $45, so the $49 minimum applies; we have assumed carrier fees sit on top of the minimum.
The number that surprises people: on message rates alone, Growth only beats Starter above 100,000 SMS a month ($100 platform fee divided by the $0.001 rate difference). Professional only beats Growth on rates above 400,000 SMS a month. You upgrade for the features and support, not the rate.
To convert subscribers into messages: a store with 10,000 SMS subscribers sending four campaigns a month, plus flows, is typically in the 40,000 to 60,000 message range.
The hidden costs in Postscript pricing
Carrier fees
Mobile carriers charge a fee on every business text. Postscript lists them on your invoice at cost with no markup, as a separate line. Its published US averages, as of 10 October 2026:
| Message type | Average US carrier fee |
|---|---|
| SMS | $0.00330 |
| MMS | $0.00799 |
| Text RCS | $0.0047 |
| Media RCS | $0.0087 |
On Starter, the carrier fee adds about 37% to the SMS rate ($0.0033 on top of $0.009). That is why a per-message price that “starts at 0.9 cents” really costs about 1.2 cents.
Klaviyo does it the other way round: carrier fees are built into its dollar rate, with no separate line. Neither approach is cheaper by default. Just compare all-in numbers.
Message segments
A standard SMS holds 160 characters, or 70 if you use an emoji or special character. Go over and the text is split into segments, each billed as a message. A 200-character text with an emoji is three segments. Keep campaign copy tight, or use MMS where images earn their cost.
MMS
MMS costs more than four times as much as SMS on Starter (about $0.053 all-in against $0.0123). It often lifts click rates, but test it rather than defaulting to it.
Dedicated short code
Every Postscript account gets a verified toll-free number free. A dedicated short code, better for high volume and fast delivery, costs $750 a month in carrier fees, passed through without markup. That only makes sense at serious volume.
Keywords and support
Starter includes two opt-in keywords and help-centre support only. If you run several keyword campaigns or want live chat help, that pushes you to Growth.
What you don’t pay
Postscript states there are no prepaid balances, expiring credits, overages or auto-upgrades, and no profile fees. That’s a genuine difference from credit-based tools like Mailchimp SMS, where unused credits expire monthly.
Can you use Postscript without Shopify?
Postscript is built for Shopify and its segmentation runs on Shopify data. Its FAQ does offer an SDK for non-Shopify stores, covering popups, a checkout opt-in and TCPA-compliant consent language. If you’re on BigCommerce or WooCommerce, check the integration depth carefully before you commit.
When Postscript is cheaper than Klaviyo, and when Klaviyo pays for itself
Postscript is the better buy when:
- You’re on Shopify and SMS is a major revenue channel. Postscript’s two-way messaging, keyword tools and Shopify data depth are strong, and it is priced for high-volume senders.
- You want no commitment. Pay after you send, no prepaid tiers, no expiring credits.
- Your email is already running well in Klaviyo. Adding Postscript as a specialist SMS layer is a common, reasonable stack. Our Klaviyo vs Postscript comparison covers when that works.
Klaviyo SMS tends to pay for itself when:
- Email and SMS need to work together. One profile, one flow builder and one attribution model mean you can branch “if they opened the email, don’t text them”. Two platforms can’t do that as cleanly, and they often double-count revenue.
- Your volumes are moderate. Between 5,000 and 20,000 texts a month, Klaviyo’s all-in US toll-free price is within a few dollars of Postscript Starter, so paying for a second platform only makes sense if you use its extra features.
- You sell outside the US and Canada. Postscript’s listed rates cover the US and Canada only. Klaviyo lists SMS rates for the UK, Australia, New Zealand and much of Europe.
- You would otherwise need a short code. Klaviyo’s calculator shows US short-code SMS at $115 for 10,000 messages a month in September 2026, carrier fees included.
The honest summary: at typical DTC volumes the per-message cost is close to a wash. The real cost of a two-platform stack is operational: two dashboards, two sets of flows, and two attribution models that disagree.

How to keep your Postscript bill down
- Stay on Starter until the features justify Growth. On rates alone, Starter wins below 100,000 SMS a month.
- Write to 160 characters. Every extra segment doubles the cost of that send.
- Use MMS selectively. Reserve it for launches and visual products.
- Suppress unengaged subscribers. Texting people who never click costs you twice: fees now and unsubscribes later.
- Model carrier fees in your ROI. Report cost per message including carrier fees, not the headline rate.

/ Frequently Asked Questions
Q.01 How much does Postscript charge? +
/ Answer
As of 10 October 2026, Postscript has three self-serve plans: Starter at $0 a month with a $49 monthly minimum spend, Growth at $100 a month and Professional at $500 a month. You then pay per message: $0.009, $0.008 or $0.007 per SMS and $0.045, $0.03 or $0.024 per MMS, plus carrier fees passed through at cost. Enterprise pricing is custom.
Q.02 How much does a single text cost on Postscript? +
/ Answer
On the Starter plan a US SMS costs $0.009 plus an average US carrier fee of $0.0033, so about 1.2 cents per message segment, as of October 2026. An MMS costs $0.045 plus about $0.008 in carrier fees, roughly 5.3 cents. Long texts split into multiple segments, and each segment is billed, so a 300-character SMS costs about twice as much.
Q.03 What are carrier fees on Postscript? +
/ Answer
Carrier fees are surcharges that US mobile networks such as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile charge for delivering business texts. Postscript passes them through at cost as a separate invoice line, with no markup. As of 10 October 2026, Postscript listed average US carrier fees of $0.0033 per SMS, $0.00799 per MMS, $0.0047 per text RCS and $0.0087 per media RCS.
Q.04 Can you use Postscript without Shopify? +
/ Answer
Postscript is built around Shopify, but its pricing FAQ says non-Shopify merchants can add Postscript's software development kit to their own store code, which provides popups, a checkout opt-in and TCPA-compliant consent language. In practice most Postscript customers are on Shopify. BigCommerce and WooCommerce brands usually find Klaviyo SMS or another multi-platform tool simpler.
Q.05 What is the cheapest text marketing platform? +
/ Answer
There isn't one answer, because rates, minimums and carrier fees differ. At around 10,000 US texts a month, Postscript Starter (about $123 including average carrier fees) and Klaviyo's US toll-free SMS plan ($125, carrier fees included) cost almost the same as of September 2026. Brevo's pay-as-you-go US rate worked out at $10.90 per 1,000 texts before any plan fee.
Q.06 Does Postscript have a free trial? +
/ Answer
Yes. As of October 2026, Postscript's free trial gives you a $100 credit to use on message and carrier fees during your first 30 days. If you use the credit up early, or at the end of the 30 days, additional messages are charged at the Starter rate unless you choose another plan. No contract is required; contracts with pricing benefits are optional through sales.
Q.07 Is Postscript cheaper than Klaviyo SMS? +
/ Answer
At typical ecommerce volumes they are close. As of September 2026, 5,000 US SMS a month cost about $66 on Postscript Starter including average carrier fees, against $70 on Klaviyo's US toll-free plan. At 10,000 messages it is about $123 against $125. Klaviyo's short-code rates are lower, while a dedicated short code on Postscript adds $750 a month in carrier fees.
