Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) is priced differently from almost every other email platform: you pay for the number of emails you send, not the number of contacts you store. That makes it one of the cheapest options for a big list you email occasionally, and less of a bargain for a small list you email every day.
Prices below come from brevo.com/pricing, its pay-as-you-go calculator and help centre, checked in September 2026. We run Klaviyo for ecommerce brands; where Brevo is the better buy, we’ll say so.
How much does Brevo cost?
As of September 2026, Brevo’s free plan allows 300 emails a day. Starter costs from $9 a month and Standard from $18 a month for 5,000 emails, and Professional from $499 a month for 150,000 emails. Price rises with monthly email volume, not list size: 50,000 emails cost $56 on Starter or $97 on Standard. Yearly billing takes 10% off.

The line that matters most for an online store: automation is capped on Free and Starter. Brevo’s feature comparison limits multi-step automation to 2,000 contacts on both, with unlimited automation from Standard. If you want abandoned cart and post-purchase flows running for your whole customer base, compare Standard, not Starter.
Professional adds contact scoring (including RFM and lifetime value), AI product recommendations, back-in-stock alerts and coupons, and AI segmentation.
Brevo cost by email volume
Monthly-billing prices in USD from Brevo’s pricing calculator, September 2026.
| Emails per month | Starter | Standard | Contacts included |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | $9 | $18 | 500 |
| 10,000 | $17 | $35 | 1,500 |
| 15,000 | $25 | $49 | 2,500 |
| 20,000 | $32 | $69 | 500,000 |
| 50,000 | $56 | $97 | 500,000 |
| 100,000 | $82 | $139 | 500,000 |
| 250,000 | Not available | $249 | 500,000 |
| 500,000 | Not available | $429 | 500,000 |
Professional runs from $499 a month at 150,000 emails to $699 at 500,000 and $999 at 1 million.
Note the contact column. The smallest tiers cap stored contacts at 500, 1,500 and 2,500. From 20,000 emails a month, the calculator shows 500,000 contacts included.
Brevo cost by list size
Because Brevo prices on volume, you need to estimate your sends. The table below assumes eight emails per contact per month, which is our assumption for a store sending about one to two campaigns a week plus flows. Double it if you send daily. Klaviyo’s figure is its email plan at the same profile count, from klaviyo.com/pricing on the same date.
| Contacts | Emails at 8 per contact | Brevo Starter | Brevo Standard | Klaviyo (email) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2,500 | 20,000 | $32 | $69 | $60 |
| 5,000 | 40,000 | $46 | $89 | $100 |
| 10,000 | 80,000 | $74 | $119 | $150 |
| 25,000 | 200,000 | Not available | $249 (250,000 tier) | $400 |
| 50,000 | 400,000 | Not available | $429 (500,000 tier) | $720 |
On these assumptions Brevo Standard is cheaper than Klaviyo from about 5,000 contacts upward. If you send less often, Brevo gets cheaper still; if you send daily, the gap closes.
The hidden costs in Brevo pricing
Automation is capped on Starter
This is the big one for ecommerce. Brevo’s Starter plan is cheap partly because multi-step automation is limited to 2,000 contacts, and A/B testing and advanced reporting are left out. Budget for Standard.
Branding removal
Free plan emails always carry the “Sent with Brevo” footer. On Starter, removing it is a paid add-on (shown at $10.80 a month on the pricing page in September 2026). Standard and above remove it.
Contact caps at low volume
The 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000-email tiers include 500, 1,500 and 2,500 contacts respectively. A 3,000-contact list on a 10,000-email plan won’t fit.
SMS is prepaid credits, priced by country
SMS is sold separately as credits, and each country uses a different number of credits per message. From Brevo’s pay-as-you-go calculator in September 2026:
| Destination | Credits per SMS | 1,000 SMS | 10,000 SMS |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 1 | $10.90 | $109.00 |
| Canada | 1.1 | $11.99 | $119.90 |
| United Kingdom | 4 | $43.60 | $436.00 |
| Australia | 7.474 | $81.47 | $814.67 |
Credits are sold in packs of 100, and Brevo notes that credit use per message can vary with message type, length and character set. Its pricing page doesn’t say whether carrier fees are included, so check your invoice.
The free plan’s daily cap
Free accounts can send 300 emails a day. A campaign to 1,000 people has to be requeued manually over four days, and you can’t schedule the next day’s batch in advance once you hit the limit.
Why is Brevo so cheap, and is it good for small businesses?
Brevo is cheap because it charges for sending, not storing. For a small business with a list it emails a few times a month, that’s genuinely good value, and the free plan is usable for very small lists.
For small ecommerce brands it’s a closer call. Standard gives you unlimited automation and A/B testing, but Klaviyo’s data model, built on orders, products and browsing, is deeper. The cheaper tool is only cheaper if it earns the same revenue.
When Brevo is cheaper than Klaviyo, and when Klaviyo pays for itself
Brevo is the better buy when:
- You have a large list and send infrequently. A 50,000-contact newsletter sent twice a month needs 100,000 emails: $139 a month on Standard, against $720 for Klaviyo’s email plan.
- You need transactional email and marketing in one bill. All Brevo plans include transactional email via API and SMTP.
- You want a lightweight sales CRM alongside marketing.
Klaviyo pays for itself when:
- Flows and segmentation drive your revenue. Klaviyo’s segments on predicted next order date, lifetime value and product interest, and its native Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce data, are why ecommerce brands use it. Klaviyo’s benchmark report shows flows earning far more per recipient than campaigns.
- You send often to an engaged list. High-frequency senders lose Brevo’s volume advantage.
- You want email and SMS in one flow and one report. See our Klaviyo SMS pricing guide.
Compare the whole programme, not the platform fee. Our Klaviyo pricing guide explains how Klaviyo counts active profiles and how a list clean can cut the bill. If you’re weighing several platforms, our Klaviyo alternatives guide and Mailchimp pricing breakdown cover the rest of the field.
Thinking about Klaviyo instead?
If you’re on Brevo and your store has outgrown its automation, our migration service moves your contacts, consent history and flows to Klaviyo and rebuilds them on your store data. If you’d like to know whether it would pay back first, get a free audit.

/ Frequently Asked Questions
Q.01 How much does Brevo cost? +
/ Answer
As of September 2026, Brevo is free for 300 emails a day. Paid plans are priced on monthly email volume: Starter from $9 and Standard from $18 a month for 5,000 emails, and Professional from $499 a month for 150,000 emails. At 50,000 emails a month, Starter is $56 and Standard $97. Yearly billing saves 10%; Enterprise is quoted.
Q.02 Is Brevo cheaper than Mailchimp? +
/ Answer
Usually, if you email a large list infrequently. Brevo prices on emails sent, Mailchimp on contacts. A 10,000-contact list emailed four times a month needs 40,000 emails: $89 a month on Brevo Standard against $135 on Mailchimp Standard, as of September 2026. If you email a small list very often, the gap narrows or reverses, so model your own volume.
Q.03 Why is Brevo so cheap? +
/ Answer
Because it charges for sending volume rather than audience size. Paid plans from 20,000 emails a month include up to 500,000 contacts, so a big list you email monthly costs far less than on a contact-priced platform. Brevo also started as a transactional email service, and its entry plans cap automation at 2,000 contacts, with unlimited automation from Standard.
Q.04 Is Brevo free forever? +
/ Answer
Yes. Brevo's free plan has no time limit, as of September 2026. It allows 300 emails a day, stores up to 100,000 contacts, lets up to 2,000 unique contacts enter automations, and always includes the 'Sent with Brevo' footer. Campaigns to more than 300 people have to be requeued manually over several days, which makes it impractical for a growing store.
Q.05 Is Brevo a CRM? +
/ Answer
Partly. Alongside email, SMS and WhatsApp marketing, Brevo sells sales packages with pipelines, deals and sales automation, and there is a free Sales tier with one seat as of September 2026. It's a reasonable lightweight CRM for a small team. For ecommerce customer data, Brevo's contact scoring, RFM and lifetime value features sit on the Professional plan.
Q.06 How much does Brevo SMS cost? +
/ Answer
Brevo sells SMS as prepaid credits, and each destination uses a different number of credits per message. As of September 2026, 1,000 SMS cost $10.90 to the US, $11.99 to Canada, $43.60 to the UK and $81.47 to Australia on Brevo's pay-as-you-go calculator. Credits are sold in packs of 100, and message length and characters can change credit use.
